  • Biography


    Ana Maria Arrarte leads the dispute resolution and arbitration practice in the Firm's Lima office. She is knowledgeable in law of civil procedure, arbitration, negotiation and conciliation. She has represented during the last 10 years procedures such as civil judicial, related with important public works and energy in the country. Her broadened experience concerning disputes resolutions and prevention of conflicts, in general, is strengthened by her studies in Negotiation at Harvard University.

    Practice focus

    Ana Maria has over 20 years of experience representing clients in judicial cases in matters of civil, commercial, constitutional and contentious administrative laws. She has been a registered arbitrator for the past 10 years and has also acted as a lawyer for different companies on arbitration procedures in civil, commercial, public procurement laws as well as regulatory matters relating to electricity and energy.

  • Experience


    • Advised Hudbay in an arbitration against a company regarding the value of the works performed by a contractor in the Project.
    • Advised on the judicial process to override and administrative fine for non-compliance with the Plan of Abandonment of a project of exportation of LNG. As Peru LNG's lawyers we have been in charge of the legal strategy since the judicial process was started.
    • Advised America Movil S.A.C. on a matter involving a judicial process initiated by the Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications through which claims the nullity of an administrative resolution emitted by the Institute of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI).
    • Provision of legal counsel to the Peruvian State on arbitration procedures related to controversies that arise of processes of private investment in mining and energy. These cases include the Activos Mineros v. Minera Ancash Cobre Case.
    • Provision of legal counsel to the regulatory entity on energy matters (Committee for the Economic Operations of the Interconnected National System –COES) in all the arbitration procedures filed by member agents challenging the Board of Directors' decisions on matters of electric energy.
    • Provision of legal counsel to Machu Picchu, an electric power generation company, in connection to the controversies that arose during the carrying out of the second stage of hydroelectric power plant.

    Ana Maria is a constant contributor to important legal journals that publish her articles and works on arbitration and dispute resolution, and is regularly invited as speaker to national and international events.

    • Author of many articles on matters related with her speciality (diffuse interests, duty to provide motivation, res judicata, joint litigants and third parties intervention, procedural annulment, motivation for arbitration awards, execution of arbitration awards, relation between Arbitration Jurisdiction and Judicial Jurisdiction, arbitrations related with public works, among others) in several local and foreign legal magazines.
